Honoring Her Ancestors is a collaborative artwork that brings together poetry, dance, and visual storytelling to honor themes of empowerment, heritage, and collective action. Developed in dialogue with community voices, the work translates lived expression into layered visual narratives that preserve cultural integrity while amplifying women’s stories. Commissioned for the HerVoice campaign by Care.org, the project explores how cross-disciplinary art practices can elevate personal narratives and contribute to global initiatives around mobility and justice.
The project listens to poetry as testimony of ancestry, agency, and resilience, and interprets dance gestures as living expressions of heritage. Artists and collaborators worked across disciplines to weave together intergenerational knowledge, embodied memory, and visions for the future. While digital tools supported aspects of the translation into visual form, the emphasis remains on co-creation — communities and artists working together to preserve authenticity, strengthen collective voice, and reimagine how stories live in contemporary art.
